Lakeland Farms

We are Mike, Sarah, Eric and Lucas Schroeder, and we are the owners of Lakeland Farms Inc. and Lakeland Feeds Inc. Our farming legacy is multigenerational, continued and passed on by Ian and Rose Schroeder. Mike has an education in Ag Science and Ag Business and Sarah is a school teacher, a 4H alumni and the hub of the wheel around our farm! In 2015 we moved from Abbotsford to Salmon Arm, started a family and started to build our farm with the help of Ian and Rose. We certified organic right away and transitioned in to grain production for the opportunities it offered in soil management, integration and local sales.

The first couple of years we built up equipment inventory, got educated in organic production and leased more land as opportunities arose. In 2017 we were awarded egg quota under BC’s New Producer Program, and we built our first layer barn placing in 2018. We knew early on that we wanted to build an on-farm feed mill to control our feed source and mill some of the crops we grow on the farm, as well as support other growers in the region. We completed the feed mill in November 2020, starting commercial sales of organic poultry feed in the spring of 2021 and retail sales in the fall of 2023. We now grow crops on 325 acres, house 8,200 organic hens, supply commercial and retail feed across BC and Alberta and graze a small beef herd annually. We are well on our way to our vision!

Our Line of Products

Certified Organic

We have been certified organic since
2015 by EcoCert Canada. Certification
means you know that we have been
inspected by a 3rd party auditor to
ensure we’re following the Canadian
Organic Standards and we know our
suppliers have done the same.

Non-GMO

Because we are certified organic you
can be assured that all of our products
are free from Genetically Modified
Organisms.

Okanagan Made

Regional food security has become vitally important and its a big reason why we are here. We didn’t have a local source of organic feed for our farm which created this great opportunity in the feed mill. We are happy to grow a good chunk of our ingredients on our own organic farm in Salmon Arm.

Key Benefits

Soil Health

We rebuild soil by increasing organic matter and diversity. Cover crops and varied rotations improve soil biology, while ongoing trials help refine how livestock, plants, and nutrients work together.

Plant Health

We take a balanced, data-driven approach. Regular soil testing guides efficient nutrient use. Compost, organic fertilizers, and in-season plant analysis help us tailor nutrition to each crop.

Cover Crops

Cover crops protect soil, retain nutrients, and improve structure. They reduce erosion, support microbial life, and add long-term value to the farm system.

Laying Hens

We raise 9,200 certified organic, free-range hens. Housed in a modern aviary, they live in a system designed for natural behavior, with welfare and health as top priorities.

Beef

Our small herd grazes cover crops and lower-quality land, converting it into high-quality protein. Finished on organic feed, they are raised with a focus on sustainability and quality.

  • I’ve been doing business with Mike and his crew at Lakeland Farms since 2017. Over the years I’ve bought corn, hay silage, dry hay, and several different grains (as both grain and silage). Mike has always been very fair to deal with. He has a passion for organic farming and is always happy to share his cropping techniques in terms of rotations, soil amendments, weed control, and planting/tillage strategies. I look forward to hopefully doing many more years of business with Lakeland Farms.
